In our review of the Nokia Treasure Tag we had one reader ask whether Microsoft or Nokia was profiting from the accessory.
The recent filing for the Microsoft Treasure Tag Mini I think neatly
answers that question, showing that the Treasure Tags are being produced
by Microsoft’s newly acquired Windows Phone OEM.
The accessory features Bluetooth 4.1 support, which allows
seamless reconnection of Bluetooth connections when they pass out of
range, essential for the Treasure Tag accessory. Given that the Windows Phone 8.1 stack only supports Bluetooth 4.0 it seems likely that a small upgrade will also be coming to the phone OS.
See the entry at the Bluetooth SIG here.
